As a former New Yorker of many years, I find it distressing to think that Asian Americans would feel unsafe there.

New York City has long been home to an extremely diverse population, with Asian Americans contributing important and vibrant parts of the culture.

I can’t imagine New York City without its Asian influence.

All that to say that if anti-Asian violence is a problem in New York City, the United States must have a very serious problem indeed right now.
