Anything is possible, but he is advocating for a very typical conservative Catholic position. While repressed homosexuality may be an explanation, it’s rather a stretch to presume every conservative Catholic man is secretly gay. Occam’s razor would suggest the more likely explanation is that he believes what he writes, especially since it’s mainstream.

I’m glad you brought up the matter of race, though. Much is being made of Fernandes being a person of color and of Indian heritage, even in liberal Catholic press. People seem unwilling to acknowledge his extremist homophobia at the same time as lauding his representation of people of color.
