Anti-trans sentiment in public discourse has reached levels that can only be described as irrational hatred. It's not just on Twitter. Just a couple days ago in a town near me in western Michigan, a school board meeting erupted into screaming and threats of violence, to the point that school board members say they felt afraid for their physical safety.

People were losing their shit over the book Gender Queer, demanding the school board remove it from school libraries in the district.

The board had initially resisted calls to do that, but in face of the violent mob at the meeting, they caved. They didn't actually ban it, but they did make restrictions so onerous that no student will probably ever read it.
