Anheuser-Busch bit off a lot more than they could chew. From my perspective as an LGBTQ activist, the Bud Light "partnership" with a trans influencer was never anything more than a cynical ploy to sell beer to people who have a general and well justified antipathy to the company.
I wrote about this already as events played out, but LGBTQ advocates have lots of genuine beefs with Budweiser. We boycotted them over support for Russia while Russia was facilitating the torture and killing of gay people in Chechnya. Two years later, for different reasons, the Stonewall Inn owners (Yes, that Stonewall) stopped selling all Anheuser-Busch products and allowed activists to stage a protest from the property, pouring cases of Bud and Bud Light into the street.
The Stonewall protest was about the brewer's outsized support for and contributions to Republican politicians who work hard to hurt queer people.
For many years, Bud has tried hard to sponsor Pride events, sell beer at Pride events, etc, even though by their corporate contribution actions they are our dedicated and vicious enemies.
Many queer people loathe Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch for that. I'm one of them. I am horror the company, and I abhor the marketing executive who attempted to sell us beer even though the company she works for is our enemy.
To an extent, that marketing executive, even though she's on leave, really dead have an impact on how queer people think about Budweiser.
Lots of confused queer people are now thinking that for some reason it's okay to drink Budweiser. And that's really disturbing.
I hope Budweiser pays a huge economic price for their disgusting, hypocritical move.
