And now that the Democrats have brought the committee assignment issue to the floor, we can see that a grand total of only 11 Republicans had the courage to vote to remove Greene.

Their claims to be concerned about process, to be loathe to set a dangerous precedent, ring hollow. Greene is a singular character.

A global cabal of Jews used a space laser to set the California wildfires? School shootings did not actually happen? The speaker of the House of Representatives ought to be executed for treason?

If we are to set a precedent for not allowing a uniquely horrifying and evil person to sit on powerful committees, then hallelujah. Of course we should be setting that precedent. I wish she were being expelled from the House. That’s what would happen in a sane, healthy political environment.

Of course in a healthy environment, the House would never have had to vote to remove her from committees. The Republican caucus would have done its job, like it did with Steve King.

The American people are in for a very rough ride over the next few years. The Republican party has given itself over heart and soul to the politics of nut-job conspiracy and hatred-centered, overtly racist populism.

The adults have left the room, and I see no sign they intend to come back.

Greene is the new normal, and I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple of years the Democrats lose the power to do anything about her and other evil people like her.
