And in every single one of those states, religious exemptions either explicitly or practically allow conversion therapy for minors by religious practitioners.
For example, a little more than a year ago, the Catholic archdiocese of Denver held a conversion therapy conference and trained clergy and lay people in administering conversion therapy to minors, even though Colorado had just passed a law outlawing conversion therapy for minors.
The laws that have been passed in the United States so far have had almost zero effect in reducing the incidence of conversion therapy, because the only people who care to practice conversion therapy in the first place are religious. They can always find ways to use religious privilege to get around existing laws.
