And if you're a queer person, like me, you feel this contempt personally, constantly. I published a story yesterday about racism and discrimination against queer people and people with disabilities. I told an uplifting story about my dad, who was a Baptist minister at the time.
Nothing in my story is in the least bit disrespectful of Christianity or Christians. I think it's a fairly nice call for compassion and respect for people who are different.
Yet, as I type this comment to you, I'm dealing with a Christian on Facebook who feels compelled to use my story to morally condemn me. They clearly didn't even read it. They just saw the word gay in my promo post and went off on me.
This happens every day of my life, and other queer people like me tell quite similar stories.
It's a big problem.
