And another reason. Homegrown vegetables are fabulous.

Some vegetables –like peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers – are incredibly easy to grow and taste so good they're an absolute revelation.

If you haven't had a tomato or a bell pepper fresh out of a garden, you don't know what tomatoes and bell peppers are supposed to taste like.

It doesn't take a lot of garden space either. I planted 24 tomato plants a couple years ago. I harvested bushels of tomatoes, and canned a bunch of them. (No, I'm not some super kitchen master, canning tomatoes is really simple.) Last winter when icy roads and shortages made getting vegetables less than easy, all I had to do was break a bell jar out of the pantry to get my vitamin c, fiber, and boatloads of wonderful flavor.
