An airport cop once asked my boyfriend, "do you have a dog?" after spotting a spiked collar in my boyfriend's luggage.

When my boyfriend said no, the cop interrogated him for quite a while. His suspicions were correct, the collar was for my boyfriend. We were planning a joke Christmas card with him in a Santa hat, a spiked dog collar, and no shirt. We thought that would be a hoot.

The cop thought it was evidence of moral turpitude or something. Because my boyfriend was an Australian, a serious question arose of whether he would be allowed to enter the country.

The cop ended the interaction by telling my boyfriend he needed to "get right with Jesus."

All that to say that I absolutely recognize the narrative you describe. Of course Evangelicals want to push their morality codes, and they'll absolutely do it with women and girls seeking abortions — to whatever extent they can.

That airport cop had no business even caring about my partner's sexual orientation or about the fact that he might wear a spiked dog collar once in a while. He was actually prohibited by law, I think, from evangelizing on the job. But the law didn't bother him at all.

The law does not bother Evangelicals in general. They'll be the first to tell you that God's law comes before man's law.

That's all part of the other bit you mentioned, that they don't want to get along with other religions and cultures, they want to conquer them.

Absolutely. And God help you if you're LGBTQ, or Black, or a migrant from Central America. God help you if you're a woman or a girl seeking an abortion.
