Amen! You can add gay men to the list of people to have common cause with on this healthcare problem.

Many gay men have particular health care concerns because of the type of sex we tend to have. It’s not a big deal, just requires a little different kind of medical practice. A little education about inoculations that ought to be standard of care. Education about PrEP, that many primary care providers do not recommend or prescribe in situations where the CDC says they should.

How many times have I had to educate my doctor about the kinds of care that was best for me as a gay man? Way too many times.

Mostly though, as you talk about, it’s just the presumption that we’re straight that adds to substandard medical care.

It doesn’t have to be this way.
