Amen, sister. One of the reasons you rarely see me wading into inter-LGBTQ debates is that I just can’t feel the need, not given where I live and what my location has taught me about oppression. Somebody laid into me the other day because I used a progressive LGBTQ flag to illustrate a story about how a rural school board in Oregon is stomping on protections for queer and Black kids. I used that illustration because that flag is what local allies actually used to rally support for the kids.
I was really sad that instead of commenting on the story and the situation, somebody saw it as an opportunity to hate on a flag, a flag being used for good.
Sigh.
