Amen and amen. And of course, let’s not forget Richard Grenell, out gay Republican, Trump’s ambassador to Germany, and briefly one of Trump’s cabinet members, the first openly gay person to serve on that level.

Not only has Grenell done nothing to advance gay liberty, he has worked to promote the interests of the viciously anti-LGBTQ Orbán regime in Hungary, and he joined an anti-LGBTQ think tank after he left the Trump administration, a think tank with a track record of advocating internationally for the criminalization of homosexuality.

Yet the Republican Party continue to cite him as evidence that they support gay people.

Grenell is a perfect example of why representation is not necessarily what marginalized people need. Because it’s perfectly possible to find outliers like him who will work against the interests of oppressed groups they nominally belong to.
