All of your points are excellent, you I have to sincerely ask why stable populations have to be presumed is important for economic stability. The world is so clearly overpopulated, and the human population is clearly destroying ecosystems and even our climate. And people constantly speak as if a contraction of the population, which would be so wonderful in so many ways, must be disastrous.

Why can't we imagine ways for populations to contract in an orderly manner that makes life better for all humans on the planet?
