Actually, you may be giving Provincetown short shrift. It's one of my favorite places on earth, so I'm not unbiased, but let me tell you what I mean.
Yes, it's a gay resort in every stereotypical way. But only in places. You can really have the best of all worlds there.
You can stay right in the middle of the village and have cocktails at the Boat Slip with speedo-clad muscle studs. But you can also rent a cottage on the outskirts, bike the dunes, go whale watching, immerse yourself in nature, and watch the sunrise and set from the same beach.
If you rented a car to get to the end of the Cape, you're also within very accessible driving distance of old lighthouses and other fascinating tourist destinations.
The air on the Cape is just amazing. It has a sort of translucent quality that's hard to describe. I know I'm not making sense, but something about the combination of the light and the wind blowing in off the Atlantic produce something I've never experienced anywhere else.
I would go to Cape Cod even if Provincetown were not a gay resort. It's one of the most beautiful places in North America. Since it is a gay resort, it's an awesome place to sort of dip your toes into gay culture while you do lots of other beautiful and fascinating things.
There, that's my pitch. 😂
