Actually, there is a workaround. It’s awkward, but you can write a private note in your own story that you have submitted to my publication or some other editor’s publication.(writers do this often, by the way) The trouble of course is that I won’t get notified about the note and won’t know it’s there unless I specifically look.

The work around if you don’t have my email address is to just look in my profile for a recent story and tag me in a comment telling me to look for the note.

Of course I’m not trying to suggest Medium doesn’t have communication problems. It certainly does. But that’s one way you can work around at least one of the problems.
