Absolutely no worries on that, Devon, if you're reading this. While queer readers make up the bulk of my followers, I always write my political pieces more with allies in mind than with my queer friends and readers. We've got enough on our plates trying to cope personally with the current anti-LGBTQ backlash.

What I hope to do is educate/outrage/inspire our friends who have more emotional distance from the problems we're facing. Besides, our progressive cis/straight allies have power than we will never possess. Getting them engaged is an important strategic goal -- the same goal that Act Up kept centered so powerfully in the late 1980 and early 90s.

As you and I have discussed, we didn't do die-ins and other street theater/protests to engage queer people and people living with HIV/AIDS. We did it to energize our cis/straight family and friends living in the suburbs and the American heartland.

And that's why I focus on Medium as a writing platform instead of sticking to gay Twitter and queer Facebook/Instagram spaces.
