Absolutely fascinating story, Molly. The work you put into discovering the roots of your home is almost as impressive as the work you did saving the house!

I love the photos you chose, especially the early one showing the neighborhood as nature rather than city.

It reminds me of a book I gave my partner for Christmas once. It featured a 150-year-old drawing of the area surrounding our highrise Manhattan co-op complex in Chelsea — as a bustling farm! Fields of wheat and an apple orchard, if you can imagine.

Of course, Manhattan's history is also partially a tale of pushing out the indigenous and building with enslaved labor.

Many of us don't learn anything about that, but knowing our history matters as we attempt to frame our lives in some sort of an ethical or moral context today.

And I that respect, you did some really awesome work digging into the history of your San Francisco neighborhood. I'm kind of in awe.

Thanks for the story!
