Absolutely. I'm working on an article about white Christian nationalism right now and I was reading a story in the LA Times about a local Presbyterian churchhurch that excludes LGBTQ people even though the Presbyterian denomination is one of the most affirming in the nation.
In this story, though, I hope most readers can draw a distinction between a university, even if it's a private one, and a church. I would hope (perhaps in vain) that even conservative Christians would understand that exercising freedom of inquiry as this professor did should not be grounds for termination, at least not if the university intends to continue claiming to center academics and honor diversity.
