Absolutely. During the time period when my gay partner and I parented a special needs boy in Montreal -- as official foster parents -- we would have been barred from that role in most of the United States, either legally or by accepted common practice. That was only 20-some years ago. Today, some people find that strange. Why would states wish to restrict the pool of available parents when so many children lack parents? Let's hope that sort of moral sense can inform discussions driven by these trans exclusionary people.
