Absolutely!
And as I wrote on Saturday, LGBTQ people are also centered dead in the crosshairs of these new-wave klansmen, targeting even our families with small children with terror and threats of violence.
One thing this new wave of klan activity has in common with historical waves is that local police departments and sheriff's offices are often in cahoots – and not just in the South.
I've written about sheriff's deputies in North Carolina fist-bumping Proud Boys as they screamed obscenities and anti-LGBTQ slurs at little kids, but I've also written about cops in California who stood back and failed to stop Proud Boys from trying to force their way into a family Pride celebration at a bar/restaurant. People inside were forced to use pepper spray to stop the Proud Boys, because the cops just stood back and watched. I didn't believe that story when I first heard it, but it's on video. You can watch it with your own eyes.
So yes, the Klan is surging, despite differences in names, and yes, they often partner with cops — just like always.
