Absolutely. And Family Equality, who I credited for the header photo in my article, does some of that. They’re a pro bono legal services agency that goes to bat for LGBTQ families in adoption and other child-related equality issues.
For example, they were the lead agency over the past 3 years representing same-sex parents with children born overseas and denied U.S. citizenship in exact the same circumstances where opposite-sex parents encounter no difficulties.
Unfortunately, they don’t have the staff to to advocate in routine circumstances like what you’re talking about. There really is a big need, and that really should not be.
