A long time ago, I opened an account on the conservative social media site Gab. I was researching a story on a guy who used that platform to post mesages to imply that he was going to shoot up an LGBT pride event in the Pacific Northwest.

As soon as I was done with the story, I closed the Gab account, but I'm still on their mailing list, and I get regular public emails from the owner of the platform.

You should have seen yesterday's email! He was incensed at Musk, and he called out the incoming Trump administration, urging them to deport all "illegals," in a remarkably and unapologetically racist manner.

It seems the values of Trump's racist MAGA base are going to come into conflict with the plutocracy lining their pockets from Trump's political patronage.

Trump's presidency has always been about enriching Trump and encouraging his wealthy allies to enrich themselves with him, at the expense of society's well-being.

Everything else has always been a dog and pony show to convince people to vote for him. Values will be coming into conflict now!

And while it's amusing to watch, I'm afraid it isn't going to make much difference in the end.

It's going to be a long four years.
