A friend of mine from India alerted me to this story yesterday. Press in India are all over this story.

The excuse for the depraved conversation strikes me as incredible. Apparently the police union representative forgot to turn his body cam off while he was having that conversation, which is why he outed himself. I think the depravity of the conversation speaks for itself. No decent human being would laugh the way that guy did. It's awful. He's clearly a depraved monster.

But then, in my opinion most police officers are depraved monsters, and established police culture nurtures and grows the monstrosity.

It's definitely worth noting that the police union in Seattle can be counted on for one thing: to defend police officers engaged in even in the most brutal, monstrous conduct.

Police unions are huge part of our problem with police brutality and racism in the United States. And this is an excellent example of how that works.
