A celibate gay priesthood is one thing, and if it opens up attitudes, then I guess that’s something.
I can tell you, though, that as a gay man, I don’t care. At all.
The Catholic Church teaches in its official catechism that we gay men and women commit acts of “grave depravity” in our romantic unions. The catechism teaches that we are “intrinsically disordered.” The Catholic Church teaches that we LGBTQ people are ordered toward “great moral evil.”
That’s hate speech.
Official Catholic doctrine is evil, vile, vicious, stigmatizing hate speech.
How dare the Church call me depraved?
How dare the Church call me disordered?
How dare the Church call me evil?
That’s the heart of the problem. Core Catholic doctrines are nothing but foul bigotry.
You’re privileged being straight, so you don’t have to care.
We LGBTQ people care. Deeply.
Your article utterly overlooked vile bigotry at the heart of the Church’s teachings. Your article is meaningless, less than window dressing.
We are NOT depraved. The Church says we are. And that’s just fucking disgusting. If you can support an institution that teaches such horror, I have to wonder about your own basic morality.
I think there’s something wrong with you.
